Catching Smoke
Searching For Success?
John RothSeptember 8, 202430:02
Ecclesiastes 2: 18 - 26Work cannot bear the full weight of our meaning, and achievements made under the sun remain fragile, fleeting, and ultimately empty. True satisfaction comes when enjoyment in daily toil is received as a gift from God rather than as the source of worth. Seeking meaning only in success or pleasure leaves hearts restless and grasping after smoke. Real purpose arrives when God breaks into life through grace, making us pleasing to him not by works but by trust in Christ. When God is the ground of value, work becomes service and joy rather than a futile attempt to secure lasting significance.
