The Poor You Will Always Have With You
John RothJune 9, 202439:40
John 12: 1 - 8Generosity toward embodied human beings is a spiritual act, because body and soul are inseparable and caring for material need honors God. Jesus affirms both particular acts of devotion and ongoing opportunities to serve, and Mary’s costly worship does not excuse neglect of the needy. Hypocrisy often cloaks itself in concern for “the poor” while avoiding sacrificial giving, but the early church models shared resources and radical care. God intends to redeem and restore creation, so practical mercy participates in his kingdom work.
