God Of The Hurricane

Nahum 1: 3 - 8Power and promise coexist: God rules with overwhelming power over nature and history, yet he binds himself in covenantal promises and is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. Suffering does not get a tidy explanation, but it is not evidence of a powerless deity or of a mechanical reward-and-punishment system. Believers rest by surrendering control, trusting that God governs all things for his purposes and clinging to the revealed mercy of Jesus who enters our pain. The faithful respond to others in suffering by presence and service rather than by cheap explanations, holding fast to God’s promises as the sure refuge in trouble.
