The 7 Deadly Sins
Envy
John RothOctober 30, 202234:15
Psalm 73Comparison destroys joy and steals gratitude by making us want what others have rather than rejoice for them. Envy is the longing for another’s life and not merely fear of loss, and it often hides behind offense, criticism, or self-pity. Envy drains pleasure from present gifts, corrupts relationships, and reveals what we wrongly rely on for identity. The remedy is worship and renewed presence with God, which grounds our worth in grace, frees us from comparison, and brings the cross as the decisive end of envy’s power.
