It's great having you here today, and this is the week. Every year we celebrate the week that changed the world, the week that makes the whole difference, the week that makes Christianity something worth to even consider. It's not simply we're going to kind of celebrate a couple of holidays. This is the turning point of all history, of all time. It's kind of like a runaway train was going in one direction down a path that was towards destruction, this whole world and everything that had happened, and then this is the time that God's son lays down his life, switches the tracks to give us a whole new future. It's just amazing what happens. And today it starts with Palm Sunday, the day that Jesus entered into Jerusalem. So welcome to Thrive Today as we are going to be talking about breaking the broken mold, the broken mold of leadership, the broken mold of power, the broken mold of religion itself with how Jesus entered into Jerusalem that Sunday. But also this week is, of course, Holy Week, it's been called. That is the week of Jesus' life. And I don't know if you realize this, the Gospels, the four Gospels we have, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, all spend one-third of all that is written is just on this one week. So some people have said it's basically a passion story with a prologue in some ways because 30-some years of Jesus' life, we're not quite exactly sure how many he lived, but 30, 33 years, one week gets a third of it. That tells you how important this week is. So this Friday, only online this year, but we will have an online streaming service for Good Friday, a meditation on Isaiah 53 and 54, the prophecies about the servant of the Lord who is wounded for our transgressions. That will occur online. We'd love for you to watch it. It starts at 6.30 and then any time after that, 6.30 in the evening. It's called Amazing Grace. So we'd love to have you for that. And then, of course, Easter, right? So bring your friends and we've got invitations for that on your seats. If you need more than one or two, we've got plenty. But today, we are going to celebrate breaking the broken mold, what Jesus does here. And we're looking at Mark chapter 11. Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples and said to them, go into the village in front of you and immediately as you enter it, you will find a colt tied on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. If anyone says to you, why are you doing this? Say the Lord has need of it and we'll send it back here immediately. And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street and they untied it. And some of those standing there said to them, what are you doing and tying the colt? And they told them that what Jesus had said and they let them go. And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it and he sat on it. And many spread their cloaks on the road and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields. And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, Hosanna, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, blessed is the coming kingdom of our father, David, Hosanna in the highest. And he entered Jerusalem and went to the temple. And when he had looked around at everything as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve. On the following day, when they came from Bethany, he was hungry and seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see if he could find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves for it was not the season for figs. And he said to it, may no one ever eat fruit from you again. And his disciples heard it. And they came to Jerusalem and he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold and those who bought in the temple. And he overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. And he would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple. And he was teaching them and saying to them, is it not written, my house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations. But you have made it a den of robbers. And the chief priests and the scribes heard it and were seeking a way to destroy him. For they feared him because all the crowd was astonished at his teaching. So today from this text, we're seeing how Jesus breaks the broken mold. And specifically, we're going to see how he broke the broken mold of leadership, of power and of religion. And it all occurs in this text. So first of all, the mold of leadership, you heard what they said of him, right? When he came into Jerusalem, they said, hail Hosanna, king, you know, and in the line of David. So he was called the king. He was hailed by them. They saw him as a leader.
